Workers Comp Administrator

3-6 month Contract (could extend beyond)

Hybrid Cambridge, MA (2 days on site)

$40-50hr

Must Haves:

Bachelor's Degree

5+ years of related workers comp experience

Strong knowledge of the laws in this space

Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred:

LTD (long term disability) experience

High volume of workers comp claims (they have roughly 300 cases/year)

Summary:

Administer complex Worker’s Compensation Program working with individuals that are injured, Departments, Labs and Centers(DLC’s), Insurance Office, Third Party administrator, Office of the General Counsel, Medical and medical providers. Advise employees, DLC’s and Third Party Administrator on claims issues and ensures processes and practices are implemented in a timely manner. Counsels injured employees and managers on the complex intersections of our worker’s compensation program and policies and procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Receives and responds to all reports of injury on the job implementing all processes required under policy and Massachusetts Law
  • Interviews employees and advise them of their rights under policy and Massachusetts Workers Compensation laws; reviews supervisors’ reports and medical documentation.
  • Responsible for making workers’ compensation payment and/claim denial decisions; may include collaboration with Office of Insurance /Risk Management, Payroll Department and the Office of General Counsel and external counsel as necessary.
  • Works with employees and DLC’s throughout the worker’s compensation process; advising on processes, practices and expectations. This includes: working with employees on understanding eligibility, lost time, medical documentation and billing, providing information about the process, requesting information about leave time, notifying payroll of making Worker’s Compensation payroll codes are open for lost time and notifications to DLCI’s on payroll processing.
  • Ensures company meets State mandated guidelines for reporting to the Department of Industrial Accident in order to avoid costly fines.
  • Coordinates with DLC supervisors, HR Staff and interacts with injured employees on a variety of claims issues including leave policies, pay policies, medical documentation, and other relevant issues
  • Working with supervisors, employee and DLC HR staff, negotiates options for and gets agreement on temporary modified duty for claims
  • Manage the processing of cases by the Third-Party Administrator
  • Works on projects, process improvements as needed.
  • Deals with confidential information using discretion and good judgment.
  • Writes and edits internal and external documents and correspondence and assists with preparation of materials for broader communications.
  • Research, gather and distribute data from multiple sources for highly complex projects and generate reports as needed.
