About This Role
Developing and maintaining WordPress websites with strong frontend fundamentals is the core of this role. It suits a developer with experience in WordPress core, custom theme and plugin development, and modern block-based development, focusing on responsive, performance-optimized, and scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins
- Work deeply with WordPress Core, hooks (actions & filters), and APIs
- Create and customize Gutenberg / Block Editor blocks
- Implement Custom Post Types (CPTs), taxonomies, and custom fields
- Ensure code follows WordPress coding standards and best practices
- Convert designs (Figma / XD / PSD) into responsive HTML/CSS layouts
- Write clean, semantic HTML5 and scalable CSS (BEM / utility-based preferred)
- Implement interactive features using vanilla JavaScript (and jQuery where required)
- Optimize frontend assets by minifying CSS & JS, conditionally loading scripts & styles, and reducing render-blocking resources
- Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility
- Troubleshoot and fix WordPress issues including plugin & theme conflicts, PHP errors and warnings, and frontend layout and JS issues
- Debug issues using browser dev tools and WordPress debugging tools
- Optimize WordPress sites for Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, TBT)
- Improve page speed by optimizing script and style enqueueing, images and fonts, and database queries
- Ensure SEO-friendly markup and performance-focused frontend structure
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in WordPress core, custom theme & plugin development, and modern block-based development
- Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with managed and cloud hosting platforms such as AWS and Cloudways
- Basic server and deployment knowledge including using SSH for server access, file management via FTP/SFTP, and domain, DNS, and SSL configuration
- Experience handling staging, production, and backups
- PHP (WordPress-focused development)
- WordPress Core, Theme & Plugin Development
- Gutenberg / Block Editor / Page builder
- HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6 basics)
- MySQL & WordPress database structure
- Git (basic version control)
- REST API integration
- Strong debugging and analytical mindset
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
