Wind Turbine Technician

About This Role

This role is for a Wind Turbine Technician who will service and maintain wind turbines, troubleshoot errors, and escalate technical issues to engineering functions. The ideal candidate can diagnose and resolve problems independently, provide excellent customer service, and work on complex systems in challenging environments. They will also participate in developing new field procedures and best practices, with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Service and maintain wind turbines
• Troubleshoot errors on wind turbine
• Escalate technical issues to supporting engineering functions
• Support other sites across Iowa, as needed
• Provide excellent service to customers
• Participate in the development of new improved field procedures and best practices
• Work inside the wind turbine enclosure at an elevated height of ~300 feet
• Think clearly and maintain composure during stressful and hazardous situations
• Work in confined spaces
• Expand technical ability
• Take on additional roles and responsibilities at an operating wind farm

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license at the time of application with an acceptable driving record
• Physically and mentally able to work suspended from heights and in confined spaces
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Self-motivated, able to think quickly and address issues as they arise
• Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment
• Excellent customer service skills and communication skills
• Strong ability to organize and plan daily/weekly work with a high level of quality
• Good computer skills, competent in the use of Microsoft platforms like Outlook and Excel
• Meet body weight restrictions of 265 pounds or less as required by the safety regulations
• Pass a physical administered by a medical practitioner to ensure ability to safely perform the job functions and meet the physical requirements

Important Details

• Travel: up to 25% in the first year for training, followed by 10% in subsequent years for business needs
• Working environment: inside the wind turbine enclosure at an elevated height of ~300 feet, confined spaces, exposure to vibration, chemicals, and extreme weather conditions
• Physical requirements: ladder climbing (minimum 250 steps), stair climbing, standing for long periods, walking, lifting, bending, twisting, work above shoulders, pushing, pulling
