Wind Turbine Technician

About This Role

This Wind Service Technician role involves diagnosing and resolving problems independently and efficiently on wind turbines. The position requires providing excellent service to customers, working on complex systems in challenging environments, and contributing to the development of new field procedures and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Service and maintain wind turbines
• Troubleshoot errors on wind turbines
• Escalate technical issues to supporting engineering functions
• Support other wind farm sites across Iowa, as needed
• Provide excellent service to customers
• Participate in the development of new improved field procedures and best practices
• Work inside the wind turbine enclosure at an elevated height of approximately 300 feet
• Think clearly and maintain composure during stressful and/or hazardous situations in confined spaces
• Expand technical ability
• Efficiently take on additional roles and responsibilities at an operating wind farm

Requirements

• Valid driver
• Physically and mentally able to work suspended from heights and in confined spaces
• Flexible travel schedule
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Be self-motivated, able to think quickly and address issues as they arise
• Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment
• Excellent customer service skills and communication skills
• Strong ability to organize and plan daily/weekly work with a high level of quality orientation
• Good computer skills, competent in the use of Microsoft platforms like Outlook and Excel
• Meet body weight restrictions of 265 pounds or less as required by safety regulations
• Pass a physical administered by a medical practitioner to ensure ability to safely perform the job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
• Pass pre-hire background screening
• Minimum of 6 months experience in a mechanical, electrical or industrial field
• Certification from a Renewable Energy or Wind Technical Program
• Hands-on work experience as a Wind Technician on a Wind Farm
• Relevant work experience or demonstrated knowledge e.g. electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, maintenance/troubleshooting in a military, industrial or automotive industry
