Wellness Coach

About This Role

Working under the supervision of a designated supervisor, the Wellness Coach maintains equipment and surrounding areas, and engages and coaches members. This role emphasizes ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, working with all staff to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members, guests, and staff, in harmony with the mission and purpose of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA
• Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
• Lead in a manner that advances the cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility
• Supervise the wellness area
• Engage YMCA members through coaching on wellness activities
• Provide member training, orientations, and evaluations as scheduled
• Provide and document daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks
• Perform daily cleaning in the wellness area and follow documentation procedures
• Input maintenance requests in association maintenance software
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
• Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate
• Act as a leader in emergency situations and report any accidents or incidents according to the Emergency Communication Action Plan
• Follow Association standards
• Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Wellness Department and center operations to ensure an excellent member experience

Requirements

• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Minimum of 6 months experience in the wellness field
• Obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning within first 6 months of employment
• Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 60 days of hire
• Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment
• Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check
• Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints
• Ability to properly prepare, choreograph, teach all required classes
• Ability to meet the physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods
• Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
• Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
