Summary Under the general supervision of the Welding Foreman, the Welding Technician welds all types of metals, designing, fabricating and repairing equipment and fixtures.

Description Classified job announcement for all qualified applicants. 8 hours per day/257 days per year/Lane 12 $26.80 (2026 - 2027 Support Salary Table) [Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase] GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Welding Foreman, the Welding Technician welds all types of metals, designing, fabricating and repairing equipment and fixtures. Educational Requirements: 1. Completion of 1-year college or technical school training program or equivalent education and/or experience preferred. 2. Completion of formal 4-year apprenticeship preferred. 3. Continuing education courses required after employment. 4. Vendor, new-product training is continuing requirement after employment. Knowledge & Ability: 1. Knowledge of both structural and plate steel capabilities. 2. Basic knowledge of metallurgy and ability to work with a wide variety of metals (e.g., copper, aluminum, cast iron, and stainless metals). 3. Working knowledge of all types of welding rods and related fluxes and products. 4. Layout/fitup principles and practices. 5. Applicable codes and standards. 6. Knowledge of welding specifications. 7. Welding inspection and testing. 8. Knowledge of welding and installation of natural gas lines and use of safety equipment. 9. Knowledge of steel cable systems, winches and related equipment. 10. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings. 11. Knowledge of layout spaces and relationships. 12. Knowledge of material safety data sheets (MSDS) preferred. Job-Related Experience: 1. Four years of experience related to the above tasks, knowledges, skills and abilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses/Certification: 1. Welding certification. 2. Certification for welding natural gas lines and pressure vessels. 3. Passing of American Welding Society (AWS) standards tests using shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, flux cored arc and gas tungsten arc welding, plus oxyfuel gas and air carbon arc cutting preferred. 4. New certifications, offered by venders, manufacturers and schools may occasionally be obtained after employment.
