Welder

About This Role

This role involves operating a variety of welding and metalworking equipment to fabricate, repair, and assemble metal structures and components. The Welder will read and interpret blueprints and specifications, prepare materials, and perform high-quality welds using multiple welding processes in a weld shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding
• Perform structural welding and fabrication of metal components according to drawings, blueprints, and specifications
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements and plan work sequences
• Lay out, fit, and position metal parts and assemblies in preparation for welding, ensuring proper alignment and tolerances
• Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment to cut and shape metal components
• Operate brazing and soldering equipment to join or repair metal parts as required
• Use metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening or bending machines to form and prepare materials
• Grind and finish welds and metal surfaces to meet quality and dimensional requirements
• Repair worn or damaged parts of metal products by welding on extra layers and restoring structural integrity
• Inspect workpieces for defects and verify conformance to specifications throughout the fabrication and welding process
• Follow established process procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards during all welding and fabrication activities
• Regularly report to work on time and prepared to perform all tasks as outlined in the job description and as assigned by supervision
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly handle tools, equipment, and materials

Requirements

• Proven ability to operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding
• Strong MIG welding skills with experience as a MIG welder in structural welding applications
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements and welding procedures
• Experience with structural welding and fabrication of metal structures and components
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and fitting, including layout, alignment, and tack welding
• Skilled in grinding and finishing welds and metal surfaces
• Ability to operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
• Ability to operate brazing and soldering equipment
• Ability to operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening or bending machines
• Capability to repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers and restoring dimensions
• Reliability in reporting to work regularly, on time, and prepared to perform assigned tasks
• Commitment to following process procedures, safety rules, and quality standards

• Experience working in a weld shop or similar metal fabrication environment
• Comfort working with a variety of welding processes and adapting to different project requirements
• Attention to detail and ability to inspect work for quality and conformance to specifications
• Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise welding and fitting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete fabrication and repair tasks
• Willingness to learn and follow established procedures and best practices in welding and fabrication
