About the role

Duties

Air Reserve Technicians are full-time civilian employees who are also members of the Air Force Reserve unit in which they are employed. In addition to their civilian assignments, they are assigned to equivalent positions in the Reserve organization with a Reserve military rank or grade. Appointee’s civilian assignments will consist of the following duties:

  • Functions as the recognized expert in the establishment and coordination of policy, procedures, and guidance of operational Air and Space Operations Center Reserve units.
  • Serves as squadron's senior advisor/lead instructor-trainer.
  • Formulate, develop, and implement assigned plans and programs.
  • Provide unit Commander/Operations Officer with technical support in developing, interpreting, participating in and monitoring a variety of unit readiness activities.

Qualifications

Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include performing executive level duties affecting daily operations and serving as a key advisor to Command Staff on areas of deployment readiness, management, financial management and other related tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of and skill in the application of rated aviator and weapons system instructor.
  2. Knowledge of U.S. and Coalition Doctrine of Operations at theater/campaign level of war.
  3. Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain good working relationships.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  5. Knowledge of and expertise in the application of Air Force and operations matters as it applies to Joint Air and Space operations and C2.
  6. Knowledge of AF Command and Control systems (Theater Air Control System- AOC, AWACS, Ground TACS), procedures, organizational structures and doctrine.
  7. Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of AOC activities such as operations, mobilization, deployment, and re-deployment, developmental and operational testing; NAF and MAJOR Command (MAJCOM) exercises and experiments, acquisition, and long-range strategy for AFRC execution of the AOC mission.
  8. Knowledge of Air Force AOC and C2 program goals and objectives, the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones, and methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions related to actual events and the relationship of the various AOC entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.
  9. Knowledge of Joint, Service, and allied Air and Space C2 doctrine, programs, mission, and goals and objectiveness, sufficient to analyze programs, methods, and procedures and offer recommendations to improve effectiveness of programs and processes.
  10. Knowledge of Air Force Instructional System Design/Development guidance and processes as it relates to operations training.
  11. Knowledge of management principles, organizations theory and standardized administrative practices to conduct studies, validate requirements, evaluate organizational effectiveness, and comply with accepted practices.
  12. Knowledge of KTO and its contingency/operational plans; MOU/MOA/support agreements staffing processes between MAJCOMs.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
