About the role
Duties
This position is for a Vessel Documentation Clerk and performs clerical services to technical, administrative or management personnel. Responsible for review of instruments related to vessel transactions, maintenance of records for public inspection, and the issuance of documentation for all geographical areas of the United States.
Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:
- Sorting and routing incoming mail to the proper recipient by categories such as type of mail, document type, document number, routing symbol, or originator.
- Sorting and preparing outgoing mail into proper categories such as first class, priority, registered, international, express.
- Filing, sorting, routing, and placement of vessel documentation records and correspondence in proper order in accordance with the prevailing filing system at the site.
- Maintaining records of expiration dates of certificates of documentation and prepares mailing notifications to registered owners.
- Processing applications renewals; preparing abstracts of title, indexing encumbrances or other recorded transactions.
- Greeting callers and providing routine information and assistance on vessel documentation matters.
Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-4 level:
Applicants must possess one (1) year of general experience providing clerical support. One year of general experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line work. General experience that is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
Two (2) full years of successfully completed education above the high school level;
OR
A combination of post-high school education and general experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify for the GS-5 level:
Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level (in the Federal service). Examples of specialized experience include: providing a wide variety of general and routine clerical assignments (e.g., providing basic information, typing a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents using office automation equipment as well as typewriters and performing mail handling duties).
OR
Four (4) years of successfully completed education above high school level.
OR
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet the qualification requirements. Only progressive education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours (i.e., beyond the first two years) of a course of study is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
