About the role

Job Summary

The Deputy Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in coordinating cross-functional engineering activities, ensuring project deliverables are met on time, within budget, and to the required quality. This role requires strong technical expertise in automotive engineering and excellent leadership, communication, and coordination capabilities across global teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and follow up on engineering meetings, capturing meeting minutes and action items.
  • Prepare engineering reports, submission letters, and presentations for leadership reviews.
  • Monitor and manage departmental KPIs.
  • Support cross-functional coordination across vehicle programs for cost optimization, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform risk management activities across development projects and report to the Chief Engineer.
  • Support and manage tasks related to engineering change requests (ECRs), design change requests (DCRs), and Jira task closure.
  • Support PFEP (Plan for Every Part) and tender investigation processes.
  • Facilitate collaboration among engineering teams and external functions (purchasing, manufacturing, data management, etc.).
  • Provide technical coordination support and process improvement within project and ESP (Engineering Service Provider) teams.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in preparing weekly progress reports and strategic updates.
  • Submit high-value ECRs for executive review and approval (DCEO/CEO level).
  • May be assigned as the technical lead for small-scale projects or specific vehicle programs.
  • Regularly monitor quality KPIs and follow up on corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 10 years of experience in Automotive Engineering or Product Development, preferably with leading automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.

    • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

      • BIW (Body in White), Chassis, Interior, Powertrain, or Vehicle Architecture
      • Geometric Dimensions & Tolerance (GD&T)
      • Manufacturing processes and component development
      • Component manufacturing technologies
      • FEA interpretation and analysis
      • CAD and Teamcenter (as a user)
  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Solid understanding of the full vehicle development lifecycle: product design, testing, process development, logistics, and homologation.
    • Familiarity with cost management and cost-walk analysis.
    • Working knowledge of project risk management and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with local and international stakeholders across all levels.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
    • High level of English proficiency (speaking, listening, reading, writing); capable of accurate translation between English and Vietnamese.
    • Proactive, detail-oriented, trustworthy, and a collaborative team player.
