Vascular Access Tech

Summary

• GENERAL SUMMARY

• The Vascular Access Technician reports to department leadership and is responsible for operating the Vascular Access Team call center by coordinating patient care requests from various areas with the RN to ensure accurate and timely service delivery. Performs skills including but not limited to establishing IV access, phlebotomy, PICC/procedural assistance, and monitoring/recovering sedated patients. Displays a strong personal commitment to successfully completing all tasks assigned. Demonstrates and mentors exceptional work habits. Concentrates on increasing patient satisfaction.

• ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows all organizational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

• Performs basic patient care and clinical procedures appropriately under the direction of the RN.

• Maintains security and confidentiality of patient information.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

• Certification by the State of Virginia as an EMT-I or EMT-P required.

• NREMT-P (Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic) certification preferred.

• PALS certification required upon hire.

• MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• One to two years of experience in a related healthcare field preferred.

• Competency must be maintained through on-the-job training and education.

• WORKING CONDITIONS

• Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
