Van Driver

About This Role

Driving a van to transport students safely and efficiently on routes throughout Montgomery County, PA, is the core of this role within the Office of Business Services. This position suits a professional driver who can operate a van, follow safety regulations, and maintain student order.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations
• Follow safety regulations and traffic laws
• Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies
• Map out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS
• Perform all pre and post trip vehicle inspections
• Follow routes as directed by Program Administrator – Operations
• Maintain route log and complete monthly mileage logs
• Complete transportation access logs
• Communicate with student's parent/guardian about assigned route
• Keep van clean and fueled
• Communicate repair needs to transportation office when needed
• Assist children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.), and/or handling/securing wheelchairs
• Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders
• Report all accidents and complete required reports
• Assist when called upon with any emergency
• Attend all required training as assigned by the Supervisor
• Immediately notify Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed
• Perform clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports
• Coordinate and manage routes as needed
• Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services
• Provide additional student and/or classroom support as needed
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid PA Drivers' License
• Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
• Knowledge of safety regulations
• Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned
• Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI

• Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 194 days per year
