About the role
Duties
The incumbent will operate repair, and maintain all components of a water treatment plant and distribution and storage system including the plant, operating wells, covered reservoirs, a booster station with elevated tower, and small well water systems. Determine seriousness of problems that occur and takes appropriate action to shut down the plant or its components, make emergency repairs or substitute manual processes for automated ones. Maintain logs of all operation, maintenance, and repair data. Additionally, the incumbent will operate, repair, and maintain all components of a Wastewater Treatment plant, lift stations, and storm water treatment facilities. Operate, repair, and maintain valves, pumps, and gates to move waste water or storm water through various stages of treatment. Observe all safety regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work as a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (Water Treatment Plant. Your resume must show that under you are able to perform the following under close supervision: Perform routine preventative maintenance and operate pumps, valves and chlorinators without more than normal supervision.
In addition to the screen out element, applicants will be rated against the following elements:
· Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair.
· Technical Practices (theoretical, Precise Artistic).
· Use of Measuring Instruments.
· Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.
· Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
· Knowledge of Material.
Physical effort: Occasionally opens and closes heavy valves and lifts heavy equipment and tools. Sometimes works in strained positions while cleaning equipment. Continuously walks up and down stairs and around the plant while checking equipment. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier.
Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Is subject to damp and varied weather conditions for substantial amounts of time. Is exposed to infections or diseases while cleaning equipment or handling biosolids. Is exposed to danger of asphyxiation and injury from contact with wastewater, storm water, gas and fumes. Severe injuries may result from falls into open tanks. May be required to wear a respirator or breathing apparatus and safety harness. Must be familiar with and utilize confined space entry procedures.
