Underwriter

About This Role

Underwriting commercial lines is the core of this role, working with Producers to ensure synergy between NAMU, carriers, and clients. The Underwriter contributes to the growth and profitability of assigned specialty product lines by marketing, underwriting, and managing products and services for moderate risks. This includes answering questions, providing professional information, and enhancing existing policies, with some risks requiring special handling or unusual coverage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present new business and renewal quotations
• Collaborate with Producers to develop business strategies and best practices
• Maintain knowledge of various authority limits provided by all carriers
• Assist with escalated or complex claims processing issues, policy changes, and questions
• Assist in developing, enhancing, and maintaining underwriting methods and techniques
• Process new business, endorsements, and renewals
• Assist management in the development of new products and applications, as needed
• Prepare monthly reports for management reflecting quoted, bound, and non-renewed accounts
• Process all assigned work accurately and within guidelines
• Perform other related responsibilities, as needed

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years commercial lines and/or marine underwriting experience
• Must obtain and maintain insurance license
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Must be detailed oriented, well organized, and have the ability to manage a high volume workload with competing demands
• Demonstrated computer proficiency – Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, etc.
