General Purpose of Job:
Acts as a representative of the Environmental Services Dept. in providing a sanitary and safe patient care environment. Responsible for maintaining the facilities of the Sparrow Ionia Hospital and any buildings connected with or by a working association in a clean and sanitary manner. Conducting themselves in a professional and cooperative manner at all times.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Clean and maintain floors and all carpeted areas as assigned.
- Perform all scheduled cleaning of the Food and Nutrition Department floors, walls, ceilings, lights and windows.
- Assist in the cleaning of emergency spills as observed or on request; sweep, mop, detail clean corners, high dusting, burnish, daily floor scrubbing, strip and wax, dust mop, sweep and discard construction waste, handle, transport, and dispose of general, hazardous, and pharmaceutical waste.
- Uses electric and battery operated floor machines, carpet extractors, automatic floor scrubbers, power washers and wide area vacuums.
- Performs regular cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, lights and windows throughout the hospital as assigned.
- Ensures the daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic cleaning of all hallway and room lights, covers, and anything associated with the mounting of the fixtures.
- Removes waste, trash and recycling materials. Transports waste materials in appropriate containers to designated disposal areas. Handles soiled linen and infectious waste. Assists in clean up of bodily waste, hazardous material spills and other duties as required.
- Maintains hospital standards of participating in mandatory in-services and other mandatory hospital/departmental requirements.
- Clean and set up rooms for special events and functions as needed.
- Providing window cleaning as needed to the Hospital and all out buildings.
- Cleans and maintains floor care equipment, per policy and procedure, ensures adequate supply inventories.
- Properly cleans and stores equipment (listed above) and other general maintenance equipment after use.
- Maintains clean storage and work areas at all times.
- Completes daily work completion and documentation log forms for assignments of floor care work.
- Performs routine Environmental Services Tech I duties as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
General Requirements

Work Experience
Previous experience with operating floor care equipment highly desirable. Minimum of 3 years experience as an Environmental Services Tech I or equivalent. Previous healthcare experience in environmental services floor care work preferred
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of usage and maintenance of floor care equipment, ability to use floor care equipment. Must be able to work independently with little supervision. Communicate effectively and follow verbal and/or written instructions. Tech II requires a satisfactory pre-employment physical demand test and lift test through Occupational Health Services. Demonstrate ability to push/pull maintenance equipment unassisted.
