Ultrasound Technician

About This Role

This role is for an Ultrasonographer who uses diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. It involves operating special equipment to generate images for assessment and diagnosis, and preparing preliminary reports for physicians.

Responsibilities

• Review patient's medical history and physician's instructions
• Prepare equipment for procedures and select appropriate settings
• Explain procedures to patients and record relevant medical history
• Direct patients to move into positions that provide the best view
• Spread gel on the skin to aid in the transmission of sound waves
• Operate special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body
• View the screen during scans, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones
• Select images for physicians for diagnostic purposes
• Take measurements, calculate values, and analyze results for preliminary reports for physicians
• Keep patient records and adjust/maintain equipment
• Comply with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in sonography from an accredited school
• Current RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) Certification
• Current CPR certification
• Minimum of one year of experience working as a certified Ultrasonographer
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Thorough knowledge in computer information systems

Important Details

• Travel: primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-the-area and overnight travel expected
