The person in this role coordinates freight movements, manages driver schedules, and uses advanced transportation management systems to optimize routes and delivery timelines. Responsibilities
- Coordinate and dispatch freight shipments, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries across multiple locations
- Utilize transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management and SyteLine to plan routes, track shipments via GPS and GIS tools, and update data entry logs accurately
- Communicate effectively with drivers, carriers, and warehouse teams using multi-line phone systems, maintaining professional phone etiquette and clear messaging
- Monitor fleet management through GPS tracking and transportation planning software to optimize routes, reduce delays, and improve fuel efficiency
- Manage shipping & receiving schedules, coordinate freight movements with 3PL providers, and oversee shipping documentation to ensure compliance with company policies
- Conduct analysis of transportation data to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies, providing actionable insights for process improvements
- Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities, shipment statuses, incident reports, and related documentation using AS400 or similar systems
Requirements
- Proven experience in dispatching within a transportation or logistics environment
- Strong knowledge of transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management or equivalent platforms
- Familiarity with GIS, GPS technology, and transportation planning tools for route optimization
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle multi-line phone systems professionally
- Demonstrated analysis skills for reviewing freight data and improving dispatch processes
- Experience working with supply chain operations, freight management, shipping & receiving procedures, and fleet management practices
- Ability to perform data entry accurately while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
