Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level III/IV NICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring NRP certification and prior neonatal ICU experience.

Details

  • Level III/IV Neonatal ICU setting
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:00), 36 hours per week
  • 3 weekends required per 6-week scheduling period
  • Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • Floating required within scope of practice as needed
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA or Compact RN license required (pending accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • BLS and NRP certifications required in-hand
  • Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (may be pending at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Skilled in neonatal care including UAC/UVC, central line care, IV therapy, and neonatal dosage calculations
  • Experience with high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide (iNO), and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
  • Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Two professional references required
  • Copies of all required certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive neonatal ICU nursing care including assisting with lumbar punctures, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care
  • Support post-abdominal surgery and colostomy/ileostomy management as needed
  • Specialty-specific modules completed during orientation (up to 16 non-billable hours)
  • Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per contract; no time off approved during the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to allow for appropriate start date planning
  • Previous UVA Health employment (permanent staff or traveler) must be disclosed; 1-year separation and leadership approval required for rehire eligibility
  • External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once that threshold is reached
  • No radius restriction for this unit
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
