Acute Care Radiology Technologist

Position Summary

The Acute Care Radiology Technologist provides health care services by performing X-ray procedures and related techniques to assist in diagnosis and treatment. This role involves producing images for interpretation by licensed practitioners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Radiology program or equivalent.

  • Montana Licensure as a Radiology Technologist.

  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification (R.T. (R)).

  • American Heart Association BLS certification.

  • One (1) year of previous radiology experience, which may include clinical internship experience.

  • Demonstrate competency in advanced imaging techniques, including fluoroscopic/C-Arm in the OR, Trauma, and portable radiography within six months, including services to NICU, CCU, and ED.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform radiographic exams as requested by healthcare providers.

  • Conduct fluoroscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures alongside radiology providers.

  • Assist with ultrasound-guided procedures, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, and arthrocentesis.

  • Educate patients on preparation and post-care for radiology procedures.

  • Support radiology nursing with fluoroscopically guided PICC placements.

  • Execute C-arm fluoroscopy exams in the OR as requested by surgeons.

  • Complete necessary documentation for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams.

  • Participate in maintaining proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures.

  • Retrieve written orders and related health information.

  • Engage in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of hospital quality indicators.

  • Educate radiography students, new hires, and radiology techs on relevant diagnostic and operative guidance exams.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and maintains a professional demeanor at all times.

  • Exhibits tact, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality in all interactions.

  • Capable of performing essential job functions successfully in a busy and stressful environment.

  • Ability to learn current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized in the position.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Adept at analyzing, organizing, and prioritizing work while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Willingness to work varied shifts as scheduled and/or needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling weights up to 50 pounds.

  • Able to support weight when assisting with bedside needs and transferring patients.

  • May require extended periods of sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.

  • Possibility of a flexible schedule, including working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, weekends, and after-hours shifts.

Work Environment Exposure

  • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and various chemicals used in healthcare settings.

  • Possibility of encountering infectious diseases due to patient contact.

  • Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations, such as interactions with distressed patients or their family members.
