Transportation Manager

About This Role

This managerial position leads the planning, routing, and oversight of the company's transportation operations. The role involves directing supervisors and drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective deliveries while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. Responsibilities

• Hire, train, and retain supervisors and drivers to build a strong transportation team
• Develop and maintain performance metrics to drive operational results
• Monitor compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
• Lead ongoing evaluations and annual performance reviews for transportation staff
• Guide, plan, organize, and motivate team members to achieve goals and deliver results
• Improve delivery efficiency and reduce transportation costs through process improvements
• Partner with leaders across the business to align policies and objectives
• Investigate and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally
• Analyze financial data to manage expenses and ensure alignment with approved budgets
• Drive analytics and KPI development to track transportation performance
• Ensure fleet operations are supported by effective maintenance programs
• Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the transportation team
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Strong working knowledge of DOT, HAZMAT, and OSHA regulations
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
• Good judgment and decision-making with critical thinking abilities
• Frequent sitting, standing, and walking with regular use of hands for computer and paperwork
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally
• Strong reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills required to manage complex operations
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-paced environment
• Primarily office-based with frequent interaction with warehouse settings
• Exposure to noise and activity typical of a transportation and distribution environment

Nice to have:

• 5–7 years of prior transportation management experience
• Experience managing fleet maintenance programs
