Transportation Designer

About This Role

This Transportation Designer 2 role involves shaping a wide range of transportation projects, from bike paths and sidewalks to highways and interchanges. You will take on moderately complex design and drafting tasks, contributing to roadway layouts, 3D modeling, cost estimates, construction quantities, technical reports, and project specifications. Working under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer, you will gain valuable hands-on experience and expand your skills in CAD drafting, geometric design, and transportation engineering principles. This position is ideal for someone with a strong work ethic, a desire to learn, and developing proficiency in design software who is eager to grow in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform moderately complex design and drafting tasks
• Contribute to roadway layouts and 3D modeling
• Assist with cost estimates and construction quantities
• Assist with technical reports and project specifications
• Perform basic technical tasks with market sector with limited oversight
• Perform quality control of basic deliverables
• Review, interpret, and employ appropriate design guidance from technical memos and reports
• Produce technical reports and memos under limited direction/oversight
• Produce specifications under limited direction/oversight
• Produce construction quantity calculations and cost estimates under limited direction/oversight
• Produce design documents and construction plans under limited direction/oversight
• Produce exhibits under limited direction/oversight
• Respond to emails, attend meetings, and answer questions/comments with limited autonomy

Requirements

• Developing proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Developing proficiency in Market Sector Software (AutoCAD C3D)
• Developing proficiency in Market Sector Software (Microstation Connect and OpenRoads) (if applicable)
• Basic proficiency in Task Specific software (e.g., AutoTurn, GuideSign)
• Solid understanding of technical fundamentals
• Eager to learn and expand skill set
• Advanced understanding of technical writing skills
