About DTMB:
The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.

About the position:
This position has responsibilities in the preventive maintenance and repair of site equipment in the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS). This position requires high knowledge in the area of repairing and purchasing replacement parts for the equipment. This position would install and oversee the installation of current or new site equipment to manufactures standards. This position may require overnight travel, on-call, or overtime during the course of their duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience on tower rigging, climbing equipment, safety procedures and practices, electrical wiring

skills and knowledge, troubleshooting electrical problems experience, familiarization with steel structures, and the
use of mechanical and electrical tools.

  • Physical ability to work on high structures at unusual heights (50' to 500'), possibly under extreme weather

conditions and environment conditions of work site.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, move heavy objects, and traverse rough terrain.

Position Location:
This position will be located in either Belmont, MI or Lansing, MI. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

The Western location (Belmont, MI) is based out of the Grand Region Service Center and encompasses the following counties:

  • Mason, Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Montcalm, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch

The Eastern location (Lansing, MI) is based out of the Capital Region Service Center and encompasses the following counties:

  • Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Saginaw, Gratiot, Clinton, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Eaton, Ingham, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Jackson, Washtenaw, Wayne, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Monroe

  • This is a test designated position. To be considered for this position you must:

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • Possess a medical examiner certification prior to final offer.

Candidates selected for this position must complete the Michigan State Police background check. This extensive background check requires fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background records. The background search will include, but is not limited to arrests, criminal charges, criminal convictions, and any information regarding contact with a criminal justice agency.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Steeplejack 7
No specific type or amount is required.

Steeplejack 8
Two years of experience assisting skilled trades' workers in the steeplejack trade.

Steeplejack E9
Four years of experience in the installation, erection, maintenance, repair, painting, dismantling, and inspection of unusually high structures (such as bridges and radio towers), including two years of experience equivalent to a Steeplejack 8.
