About the role

Duties

The selectee will serve as a Time and Leave Technician in the Office of Protective Operations, Uniformed Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Advising managers, uniformed members and employees on regulatory requirements, pay and leave policies and interpretation of data through analysis of monthly reports and special systems edits; performing daily reviews to analyze, verify, and process a wide variety of time and leave data comprising various alternate 24/7 work schedules with various premium pay entitlements (e.g., overtime, Sunday pay, FLSA pay, shift differentials, danger pay, holiday pay, etc.).
  • Examining time and leave record information; coordinating the detection and correction of errors; making necessary adjustments to the data as changes occur; resolving identified problems and minimizing delays; and maintaining time and attendance reports.
  • Performing examinations and transactions across automated information systems and databases, and the interrelated hard copy information system to ensure accurate and timely adjustments; participating in system updates to accommodate the variety and volume of information changes and providing technical assistance in the resolution of problems.
  • Performing recurring and special purpose audits and reconciliations to determine compliance with applicable regulations and procedures; assisting the supervisor in developing and conducting on-the-job training, and modifying operating procedures.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-8 level (starting salary $49,771) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level performing duties such as: assisting the supervisor in establishing timelines and cutoff schedules to assure timely transmission of data to meet time and attendance schedules; maintaining and updating certified time and attendance files; applying Federal regulatory pay administration guidelines related to time and leave entitlements; examining time and leave record information; detecting and correcting errors and resolving identified problems; and managing the bi-weekly pay closeout.

You qualify for the GS-9 level (starting salary $54,972) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level performing duties such as: evaluating, interpreting and applying Federal regulatory pay administration guidelines related to time and leave entitlements; examining time and leave record information; detecting and correcting errors and resolving identified problems; and managing the bi-weekly pay closeout requiring the complex processing and posting of data across multiple automated information systems for transmitting pay data.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
