Duties
As a Telecommunications Specialist and shift member of the U.S. Army Signal Activity - Fort Detrick (DSCS) in any of the multiple telecommunications facilities, you will:
- Assist the Shift Supervisor in the overall operations of the shift, ensuring the continuous movement of voice and data communications in direct support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Department of Defense (DOD), White House Communications Agency (WHCA), National Security Agency (NSA), National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC), National Guard Bureau, State Department and Foreign Government treaty and alliance communications networks.
- Perform the operations and maintenance duties associated with Vertex 15M-KPC (C-Band), AN/GSC-52V2 (X & Ka Band), and AN/FRC 181 (MILSTAR SHF, UHF and EHF) satellite earth terminal systems as well as terrestrial transport based on Ciena CoreStream DWM and Sycamore 9000 ODXC fiber optic systems.
- Assist in supervising, directing, training and providing technical oversight to a shift of communication and language translation personnel.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must meet the experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) leading a team of telecommunications personnel or overseeing a telecommunications project; (2) operating and maintaining digital and analog telecommunications equipment and transmission media (i.e., radio frequency equipment, transmitters, digital baseband multiplex equipment, modulators/demodulators, and antenna control systems); (3) testing and troubleshooting telecommunications equipment and media; (4) diagnosing and repairing telecommunications equipment and network symptoms; and (5) providing technical assistance and/or training related to the operation and maintenance of telecommunications systems and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of telecommunications practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operational and performance characteristics of telecommunications equipment.
- Skill in leadership.
- Ability to communicate orally.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent.
