Technical Writer

About This Role

This technical writing role focuses on creating product documentation that serves both human users and AI agents, in a fast-paced environment where the product evolves daily. The successful candidate will be the second technical writer on the team, taking ownership of product areas from the outset and contributing to every launch. The role involves pioneering new approaches to documentation for a dual audience of people and AI, given the rapid changes in software development.

Responsibilities

• Drive documentation efforts, proactively identifying and preparing for new features and launches
• Own the end-to-end documentation process for features, from understanding the code and product to writing, verifying, shipping, and maintaining pages
• Prioritize reader needs over feature explanations, using data on user behavior and support inquiries to guide content creation
• Improve the product by identifying and addressing confusing labels or broken steps during the documentation process, ensuring fixes before launch
• Write for diverse audiences: non-technical builders, developers, and AI agents
• Focus on the judgment and critical thinking aspects of documentation, such as identifying feature needs, uncovering unmentioned details, and performing checks to maintain accuracy across many pages
• Start by focusing on documentation for enterprise features including identity, access, governance, audit, and data residency
• Enhance the API and MCP references to be comprehensive
• Own the documentation for a product launch within the first few weeks
• Automate one manual documentation check

Requirements

• 3+ years documenting software products, with demonstrated ability to create clear, effective pages
• Experience writing with AI for research, drafting, and checking, along with an understanding of its limitations
• A commitment to testing documented features by trying them out and reviewing source code, and proactively raising issues
• Proficiency in docs-as-code practices, including Git, Markdown, and pull requests
• Ability to ask specific questions to engineers and product managers, and to identify and communicate potential user experience issues early

Nice to have:

• Experience shipping documentation weekly at a startup or scale-up, with a proactive approach to identifying changes
• Experience or curiosity in writing for AI readers
• UX writing or content design experience, or an interest in it
• Ability to read code to verify feature behavior (coding not required)
