Technical Project Manager III

About This Role

This technical project manager role at Google involves leading complex, cross-functional projects from start to finish, focusing on product quality throughout the new product development lifecycle. The position requires collaboration with stakeholders to define requirements, identify risks, manage schedules, and communicate clearly with global teams. Responsibilities

• Develop and execute new product development quality plans at each development milestone (prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT, ramp-up)
• Define exit criteria, track production line health, and assess ramp-up readiness
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve design for quality/manufacturability, review DfX deliverables, and integrate engineering DFMEA into factory process control and test plans
• Lead cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing defects, cosmetic issues, and component failures using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone)
• Drive end-to-end user experience quality goals, including out-of-box experience (OOBE), cosmetic acceptance criteria, and after-sales return rate prediction
• Report quality status, yield performance, defect tracking, and launch readiness to executives

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5 years of project management experience
• Experience managing the quality of devices and services or electromechanical consumer products throughout the new product development lifecycle (from prototyping/EVT to PVT, ramp-up, and commercial launch)
• Experience managing contract manufacturers and suppliers, skilled in establishing and managing key quality metrics (out-of-box experience, after-sales return rate prediction, production line yield, Cpk/Ppk)
• Ability to travel to international manufacturing sites during critical new product development manufacturing cycles (up to 25% of work time)

Nice to have:

• Master's degree in Engineering
• 8 years of experience managing the hardware quality of complex wearable health tracking devices or connected devices
• Understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes (molding, forming, stamping, SMT, final assembly, and functional testing)
• Understanding of DfX principles (DFM, DFA, DFT) and the impact of engineering design decisions on factory yield and field reliability
• Ability to lead failure analysis across multiple domains, including hardware, firmware, reliability, and operations, within tight launch schedules
• Excellent communication skills, able to report clearly and concisely to executives, summarize complex technical risks, and drive global team alignment
