About This Role
This role involves leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish within Google's Data Center team, which designs and operates sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems. The Technical Program Manager will plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate with cross-functional partners. The position suits an individual comfortable explaining analyses to executives and discussing technical tradeoffs with engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage a large, site-wide data center construction and delivery organization, overseeing scopes related to construction projects or capital improvement projects
- Ensure the development of detailed designs, managing construction (delivery, cost, quality, and EHS), commissioning, close-out, and hand-off to the operations team
- Ensure all customer requirements are being met
- Establish and maintain various delivery models and global relationships with multiple vendors
- Create a growth plan and be involved in hiring and recruiting talent in areas such as project management, field engineering, document control, and technical writing
- Research and implement construction means and methods for data center equipment and facilities
- Carry design concepts into mass production and integrate them into facilities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5 years of experience in project and construction management in critical infrastructure
- 5 years of experience in mission-critical project and construction management, specializing in hyperscale data center delivery and MEP systems integration
- Experience with commercial contract management and procurement
- Experience managing construction projects within an international working environment
- Experience with electrical and mechanical systems
Nice to have:
- Experience working with data center equipment and environments (including switchgear, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems), with an understanding of start-up and commissioning processes
- Experience managing vendor relationships, with an understanding of standard practices in the design and construction industry
- Ability to build excellent relationships and deliver on action-oriented tasks
