Teaching Assistant

About This Role

This full-time, permanent Teaching Assistant role supports the education of pupils with complex social, emotional, mental health, and/or cognition and learning difficulties at Foxglove School. The position involves working under the guidance of teachers to implement work programmes, supervise classes, and manage pupil behaviour, including physical intervention when necessary. It suits a caring individual passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of teachers in the planning and implementation of work programmes with individuals or groups of pupils or the whole class to promote effective teaching and learning
• During the short-term absence of a class teacher, supervise the whole class and deliver pre-prepared activities within agreed staffing levels and appropriate risk assessments
• Provide general support to teachers in the management and organisation of pupils and the classroom, ensuring appropriate support for each pupil dependent on their individual planned needs
• Use behaviour management strategies in line with Hopedale policy and procedures
• Assist teachers in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment for all pupils, particularly helping to overcome barriers to learning
• Promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop
• Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and staff within the school
• Support the personal care needs of pupils
