Tax Senior Associate - Real Estate Funds & Real Estate

About This Role

The Tax Senior Associate prepares and reviews complex tax returns for real estate funds and properties, ensuring compliance with deadlines and regulations. This role suits a tax professional with experience in business taxation within the real estate industry, who can also provide tax planning and research.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex tax returns and review simple tax returns, including real estate fund, holding entity, and property partnership returns (Form 1065); REIT (Form 1120-REIT); and corporate blockers (Form 1120)
• Prepare state and local tax returns, composite, and withholding filings for clients in the Real Estate industry
• Prepare quarterly and annual REIT Testing compliance
• Meet client, internal, and statutory deadlines
• Complete tax planning and research regarding specific tax issues
• Understand tax regulations and accounting pronouncements
• Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
• Other duties as assigned
• Some travel may be required (varies based on location, line of business client need)

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in business taxation working for a Big 4 or a large national, regional, or local accounting firm in the real estate industry
• Experience in U.S. Tax accounting
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
• Must be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, EA, or be a licensed JD
• Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements
• Experience preparing returns
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Master of Accounting

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with a national or large regional accounting firm
• Working knowledge of tax code and technical aspects of tax preparation and compliance within the real estate industry
• Experience in dealing with international tax matters
• Experience in dealing with real estate debt matters
