Tax Preparer

About This Role

This role involves working on-site at a TurboTax location as part of a collaborative team of financial experts, serving in-person and virtual customers who use Intuit TurboTax products. The primary focus is full-service tax return preparation, providing expert tax advice, calculations, and software support. You will also act as the connective tissue between customers and a broader team of specialists covering business tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, and advisory services, building a shared understanding of each customer's complete financial picture.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on tax advice and complete preparation services for TurboTax clients, handling simple to complex tax situations (e.g., personal and business income, deductions optimization, amendments)
• Facilitate discovery sessions and tax reviews to uncover deductions, minimize tax liabilities, maximize refunds, and provide future tax planning advice
• Utilize resources such as government websites, professional tools, and team expertise to deliver accurate tax solutions in personalized everyday language
• Embody a “community ambassador” and “business owner” mindset to actively build and grow a new local customer base for TurboTax
• Identify and pursue prospects through targeted outreach, grass-roots marketing initiatives, referral networks, and community partnerships
• Serve as the local face of TurboTax, converting new prospects into loyal, long-term clients
• Organize and lead local events such as financial literacy workshops, community pop-ups, and networking gatherings with the support of TurboTax marketing tools and resources
• Act as a trusted guide for every client by developing a deep understanding of their complete financial picture and connecting them with the Intuit solutions best positioned to move them forward
• Identify opportunities to introduce clients to complementary services such as bookkeeping, payroll, financial planning, or Credit Karma
• Connect with people, demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to their financial concerns, and build long-term trust
• Create an exceptional customer experience, professionalism, and genuine interest in helping clients achieve their financial goals
• Interact with customers both in-person and through Intuit’s state-of-the-art video communication tools
• Address client inquiries while helping them overcome tax-related challenges

Requirements

• Possess active, unrestricted credentials: EA (Enrolled Agent), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or Practicing Attorney with strong tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of tax laws
• Have an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) as required by law to file taxes
• Minimum of 3 years of paid experience filing 50 or more federal and state individual 1040 tax returns per tax season using professional tax preparation software
• Familiarity with Circular 230
• Willing to upskill into additional service types or more complex work areas (e.g., bookkeeping, payroll, business tax advisory) with training provided by Intuit
• Must be comfortable working onsite at a TurboTax office location
• Must be willing and able to complete all required training and development as determined by the business
• Must be willing to wear Intuit provided uniforms
• Must be willing to use your name, picture for advertising on Google
• Interest in building a local and online social presence as a TurboTax Expert, creating accessible tax-related content and resources for your community in accordance with Intuit’s policies
• Passionate about empowering customers and helping them overcome the complexities of taxation

• Proficient with technology, including tax preparation software and CRM/sales tools
• Must reside within the United States
• Must possess or be able to obtain any related State licenses, certificates, permits, or bonds

Important Details

• Schedule: primarily between the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM local time, Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 20 hours per week; operating hours are subject to change and will likely scale up during periods of peak customer demand, such as tax season
