About the role

Duties

As a Tax Examining Technician you will:

  • Analyze and resolve tax processing problems such as adjusting taxpayer accounts, preparing manual refunds, and credit transfers in addition to computing tax penalty, and interest.
  • Review and screen a wide variety of information reports and taxpayer requests.
  • Analyze taxpayer account history and transaction postings to ensure case closure without rejection.
  • Provide support by running filters, preparing disks, and assembling MACS prints or perfecting files.
  • Review examination cases and adjustment requests for statute imminence.
  • Review IDRS, AIMS, EOIC reports and case files to verify accuracy ensure these databases are correct and up-to-date.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-05 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: demonstrating knowledge of tax rules, regulations, procedures collection techniques and enforcement actions to identify issues, make appropriate adjustments to accounts, and advise the taxpayer of options available for meeting tax obligations; Knowledge of available on-line systems, research materials, technology, and tools. OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: a Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR
You may qualify by a combination of education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

  • The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:

You must have been at the GS-04 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).
