Tax Accountant

About This Role

This role involves supporting accurate and timely tax reporting across the organization. The Tax Accountant will prepare property tax statements, review assessments, coordinate payments and filings, and assist with appeals and audits. This position also contributes to indirect tax compliance, including federal and state excise tax, sales and use tax, and business tax returns, maintaining tax calendars and records, conducting tax research, and communicating with management.

Responsibilities

• Support accurate, timely tax reporting across the organization
• Prepare property tax statements
• Review assessments and supporting work papers
• Coordinate tax payments and filings
• Assist with appeals and audits when needed
• Contribute to indirect tax compliance, including federal and state excise tax, sales and use tax, and business tax returns
• Maintain tax calendars and records
• Conduct tax research
• Communicate clearly with management regarding the status of returns, audits, and appeals
• Take initiative to improve processes
• Help the team meet compliance obligations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in accounting reflecting increasing levels of responsibility
• Microsoft Office Suite experience, including Excel and Access
• Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time
• Required to be 18 years or older

Nice to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus 5 years experience in accounting, public accounting, or general corporate tax reflecting increasing levels of responsibility
• Master’s degree in taxation
• CPA
• Experience with SAP and/or JD Edwards ERP System
• Experience with PTMS property tax software
• Experience with RIA/CCH Online Research Software
• Experience reading, analyzing and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
• Experience writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
• Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public
• Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions
• Skilled in interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
• Skilled in performing work that is varied and may be somewhat difficult in character, usually involving limited responsibility, requiring frequent evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity
