About the role

About This Role

System software engineers develop the core features that power game downloads, installation, updates, and launches across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and previous PlayStation consoles. This role focuses on ensuring that large content files are delivered quickly, reliably, and with full compatibility, requiring broad design and implementation skills to manage multi-gigabyte game content under various constraints like network bandwidth, storage, runtime environments, and legacy compatibility.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop client software for game delivery, installation, and updates within PlayStation system software
  • Design with long-term compatibility and operation in mind, considering dependencies between game titles, system software, SDKs, and constraints from existing and future titles
  • Explore solutions, create basic designs, and coordinate/agree on specifications with related teams for new requirements and feature additions
  • Collaborate with team members and partner companies on detailed design, implementation, unit and integration testing, and post-release support
  • Lead design initiatives and solve cross-team technical challenges as a team lead or candidate, depending on experience

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience in C++ or development experience in low-level areas such as operating systems/middleware
  • Experience consistently handling requirements definition, design, implementation, and testing in product-level software development
  • Experience designing and implementing parallel processing and asynchronous processing
  • Experience solving technical issues in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and teams
  • No PlayStation-specific knowledge is required at the time of joining; it will be acquired as needed

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge and experience with software configuration management and container technology
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, building product build systems, or QA operations
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript
  • Experience with software design using design patterns
  • SDK development experience
  • Experience designing, developing, and operating test programs, test frameworks, or test infrastructure

Important Details

  • Language skills: Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English without hesitation
  • Language skills: Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1 or equivalent Japanese proficiency
  • In both languages, the attitude of organizing and conveying technical points is emphasized over fluency itself
