Required Skills: (Need All)

• Cisco Networking:
  3+ years of hands-on knowledge and experience with Cisco routers and switches.
• Web Filtering:
  1-2 years of experience with Palo Alto and Zscaler web-filtering technologies.
• Video Surveillance:
  1-2 years supporting video-surveillance networks, servers, workstations, and related equipment.
• Overall Technical Experience:
  10+ years of surveillance, network, server-support, or closely related technical experience.
• Independent Field Support:
  Strong troubleshooting, adaptability, creativity, and improvisational skills, with the ability to work independently at secure facilities and resolve issues as they arise.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Door-control systems knowledge.
• Building-automation systems knowledge.

Description of Role:

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is seeking an experienced IT professional to support facilities-based systems across the agency. The role works on surveillance, door-control, building-automation, telecommunications, network, server, workstation, storage, and related infrastructure deployed across nearly 200 statewide locations, including secure correctional facilities.

The technician will perform design, planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, and support. The role also provides project tracking, management reporting, and tactical and strategic input on systems planning and related initiatives. Work is frequently performed independently and requires sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to address issues in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, install, configure, maintain, monitor, and support surveillance, door-control, building-automation, telecommunications, and related facilities systems.
• Support desktop computers, servers, network devices, storage solutions, and surveillance-specific equipment.
• Install, configure, maintain, and monitor statewide networks and web-filtering platforms, including Palo Alto and Zscaler, and mitigate technical issues as they arise.
• Create and update extensive system documentation, project tracking, and management reports.
• Provide tactical and strategic input on overall systems planning and related projects.

Other Notables:

• On-Call:
  The on-call rotation is approximately once every eight weeks. The standby rate is $2.25/hour for carrying the phone; actual work performed in response to a call is paid at the normal rate.
• Travel:
  Travel is primarily in-state day travel. State fleet vehicles are available to qualified drivers. Overnight travel is uncommon and normally planned well in advance; long workdays may occur.
• Work Sites and Schedule:
  The role supports nearly 200 DOC locations statewide, including secure facilities. Weekend requirements are listed as varied.
• Security and Access:
  Security is required. The role does not have access to Federal Tax Information.
