About the role
Role Overview: Provides surgical technology support for direct and indirect patient care, assisting surgeons during operative/invasive procedures. Acts as a resource, trains new technologists and students, and functions as an informal lead when needed. Utilizes advanced knowledge to improve team performance and efficiency.
Responsibilities Include
- Preparing for surgeon-specific procedures with accuracy and efficiency
- Setting up sterile fields, instruments, and equipment, ensuring readiness and functionality
- Assisting during procedures by scrubbing, running Mayo stands, and anticipating needs
- Adapting techniques to match surgeon preferences and managing routine and emergency cases confidently
- Performing case closing activities and teaching staff and students
- Responding proactively to intraoperative changes and maintaining a calm, focused demeanor
- Mentoring and precepting staff and students, demonstrating critical thinking and technical skills
- Participating in on-call duties, communicating effectively, and supporting team collaboration
- Contributing to quality improvement and fostering a positive work environment
Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate's Degree or Surgical Technology Certificate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days
- Proficiency in scrub and assisting roles across various specialties
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and mentoring abilities
- Flexibility for on-call and emergency response
