Surgical Technologist

About This Role

This part-time surgical technologist role involves assisting surgeons and other medical professionals in operating rooms. The position requires preparing patients, rooms, and equipment for surgical procedures and actively assisting as part of the surgical team during operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms, ensuring all equipment and supplies needed for the procedure are properly disinfected, assembled, and in working order
• Ensure the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the operating room
• Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase
• Prepare patient's skin for surgery; move and position patients in the operating room; monitor vital signs and observe status
• Perform scrub functions during surgery, including passing sterile surgical equipment to surgeons, cutting sutures, tracking items used/performing instrument counts, collecting and labeling specimens taken, and helping dress a patient's wounds
• Transport patient after procedure

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program
• One month of job-related experience and/or training
• BLS certification

Nice to have:

• One year of experience in a medical setting
• Certification as a surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
