Duties
You will plan, organize and administer Morale, Well-being, & Recreation (MWR) activities and programs that promote the physical, creative, and social development of its participants.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
Typical work assignments include:
Managing several diverse types of functions that support the MWR activities, including, but not limited to: gymnasium, basketball court, and equipment locker; food service operations including a cafe; rental properties, All Hands Club, and Function Hall; and programs and activities as authorized by higher directive.
Providing on-going supervison to staff.
Conducting meetings with activity managers to make assignments and to review and discuss operations, special projects, long-and-short range plans, and other management considerations.
Conducting routine visits to various facilities to review operations.
Conducting needed assessments to plan for future needs for Coast Guard personnel located throughout the Base Boston area of responsibility.
Identifying trends, conducting surveys, gathering statistics and making changes in programs to meet the needs of participants.
Researching alternatives and developing recommendations for updating equipment and programs.
Qualifications
Qualifications for GS-12
Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level is required. Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples include: Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs; Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management; Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
