About the role

Duties

  • Plan and oversee installation and operations of the network and all related hardware and software.
  • Responsible for identification and resolution of systems problems.
  • Define and implement backup and recovery procedures.
  • Responsible for the configuration and connectivity of Regional area network nodes, including routers, switches, bridges, servers.
  • Direct the operation of the TCC and the COMSEC programs; and ensure security of classified material.
  • Define, plan, and assign work to be accomplished by subordinates.
  • Set and adjust priorities and job suspenses.

Qualifications

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as 1) the development, configuration, and maintenance of networked systems including local area networks and wide area networks; 2) the performance of network configuration management functions; 3) and identifying the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies.
And I have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four following competencies: 1) Attention to detail - ensuring that the hardware and software components of the network infrastructure are properly configured. 2) Customer service - working with clients and customers by providing on-site work center support to functional end-users in troubleshooting problems. 3) Oral communication - present guidance on information assurance to customers in order to achieve understanding of desired solutions to problems. 4) Problem Solving - visiting individual work sites to analyze individual end user problems and provide a solution. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

Knowledge of IT Customer Support principles and systems operations

Knowledge of IT Network principles and systems operations

Ability to Analyze Technical Data

Ability to Communicate Verbally

Ability to Supervise

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade (or equivalent).
