About the role

Duties

As a Supervisory Immigration Analyst (Asylum), you will:

  • Supervise a group of immigration analysts who are responsible for accessing USCIS data systems and other law enforcement and commercial databases to extract information pertinent to asylum and other immigration benefit applications.
  • Develop and prescribe procedures and techniques and furnish policy guidance to subordinates.
  • Prepare documentation, create reports, organize records, and assemble databases.
  • Make sure background information is provided to appropriate Asylum Officer staff for consideration in adjudication of asylum cases.
  • Respond to applicants for immigration benefits and representatives with appropriate information relating to asylum and other applications pending adjudication in the office. Such responses may include determinations of jurisdiction over asylum, NACARA §203 applications, credible fear cases and reasonable fear cases, and may require analysis of appropriate information and examination of available documents.
  • Oversee a team of immigration analysts who personally issue case decisions and documents charging deportation or exclusion.
  • Manage a team of immigration analysts who conduct information gathering interviews with applicants for immigration benefits.

Qualifications

GS-11: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-11 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

  • Providing technical and administrative guidance to individuals researching and analyzing information from records and databases to determine if information vets to a subject and the extent of derogatory information, assisting in the detection of fraud;
  • Providing guidance, preparing documentation, and creating reports related to background checks;
  • Interviewing database record holders and law enforcement officers to verify facts and obtain specific information relating to a case; and,
  • Performing record searches to secure conviction records.

OR

  • You may substitute a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent degree) or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or L.L.M. if related for experience at the GS-11 grade level or such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours.
