Duties
Manages and directs a complex facility management organization including marine (ocean and sea) transportation. Performs the full range of personnel management responsibilities.Serves as Chief of Maintenance, developing and implementing programs to ensure adequate maintenance & preservation of Park facilities & related natural/cultural resources.Develops and manages cyclic, repair and rehabilitation and constructions projects. Serves as a member of the Park's Management Team establishing policies, goals and objectives, operating procedures, guidelines, and internal controls.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work performed is headquarters location is primarily sedentary. Work performed on the islands involves traveling to and from sites via boats, fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Access to remote locations requires walking, 4x4 travel, ATV use and hiking in rough terrain associated with on-site inspections, May also climb ladders and crawl in tight places and wear personal protective equipment to inspect facilities and work performed, Work is also conducted in the marine environments which require the use of skiffs and the oversight of scuba diving operations. Work is performed in both an office setting and outdoors where there is exposure to the various risks and discomforts associated with a construction environment when inspecting the facilities being managed including exposure to hazardous conditions (cold water and open ocean conditions) and extreme weather conditions (sun exposure, high winds).

FOR THE GS-13: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level of difficulty and responsibility managing a maintenance program for office or apartment building complexes, hospitals, recreation facilities, marina/boating facilities, military, or other special-purpose installations, including planning maintenance activities, and developing preventive maintenance programs; Conducting surveillance activities over construction and maintenance operations performed by a variety of private contractors, including reviewing project plans and specifications for workability, informing contractors of construction and reporting requirements, and supervising operations for conformance with project plans; or Performing maintenance or construction work, including estimating material and labor costs for a variety of construction or maintenance projects (such as construction or maintenance of brick, frame, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and other type structures ranging from one- or two-story buildings to larger structures), directing actual work operations, and maintaining appropriate contacts with the organization funding the project.
