Supervisor, Healthcare, Substance Abuse Counselor

About This Role

This supervisory role supports live-in and pre-treatment programs within RVH's Addiction Services, providing leadership, coaching, and mentorship to colleagues. The programs offer evidence-based care, including assessment, stabilization, individualized treatment planning, family support, and aftercare services for individuals in recovery. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, well-organized individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys supporting a diverse patient population and clinical team.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage in workplace improvement discussions
• Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) projects related to workflow and program development
• Actively participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of program staff
• Participate in the review, investigation, and completion of incident reports
• Monitor, audit, and provide support and oversight of clinical processes and documentation
• Provide clinical supervision and oversight to the program’s clinical team
• Participate and lead in the development of education and communication materials for both internal and external use
• Actively participate in the promotion of workplace safety
• Address customer service requests and service recovery issues escalated by patients and families
• Assist with scheduling
• Lead the development and oversight or orientation for program staff
• Promote workplace safety
• Provide consistent staff support
• Perform other related duties consistent with the job

Requirements

• University Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences or Social Sciences preferred
• Basic CPR and First Aid certifications required

Nice to have:

• Certification as an Addiction Counsellor (International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor (ICADC) or Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor (CCAC) considered an asset)
• Clinical supervision training and/or certification is considered an asset
• Membership with a relevant college/registering body considered an asset
• Certification in non-violent crisis intervention considered an asset
• Formal training in CBT/DBT/Solution focused /family Therapy/Supportive counselling considered an asset
• Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention training considered an asset
