Substitute Teacher / Substitute Teacher Monitor

About This Role

This opportunity allows you to make a difference in the lives of students by ensuring their education continues when the regular classroom teacher is unavailable. The work schedule is flexible, allowing you to choose the days you want to work. This role is open to PSERS retirees and active or inactive PA teaching certificate holders, who may substitute an unlimited number of days per year.

Responsibilities

• Ensure education continues for students while the regular classroom teacher is not available

Requirements

• PA teaching certificate (all/any certifications); or
• An emergency permit obtained through Palmyra Area School District or IU13; or
• Hold a Bachelor's degree in any content area and complete the Guest Teacher Program through Lancaster-Lebanon IU13
• The guest teacher program information is available through Palmyra Area School District and can be completed within 6 hours from the comfort of your own home!
• Prospective Teacher Substitutes: college students enrolled in a Pennsylvania-approved college or university teacher preparation program AND have completed a minimum of sixty (60) college credits or equivalent may work as a Substitute Teacher
• For Substitute Teacher Monitor: completed at least 60 semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college/university located in PA; or have at least three (3) years experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity
• For Substitute Teacher Monitor: met the pre-employment requirements for background clearances, citizenship, and good moral character under the School Code and Child Protective Services Law
• For Substitute Teacher Monitor: at least 25 years of age
• For Substitute Teacher Monitor: completed training on classroom management available through the Palmyra Area School District (via IU13)
• Obtain the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check, and FBI Background Check if hired
