About the role

Duties

As a Student Trainee (Mission Support) in the Pathways Program, you will perform a variety of administrative and technical assignments intended to develop the knowledges and skills required for providing mission support to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. These entry-level candidates will perform mission support duties and provide greatly needed resources to the agency's field offices. Typical work assignments include assisting higher level Specialists in:

  • Collecting and compiling information for such areas as budget, procurement, human resources, etc.
  • Updating information on spreadsheets and other office documents;
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, FedEx and UPS packages;
  • Maintaining office records, files and supplies; and Responding to routine questions concerning administrative procedures and requirements.

Qualifications

BASIC ELIGIBILITY:

Pathways Internship Programs candidates must meet the basic eligibility requirements of the ICE Pathways Programs.  Specifically, you must:

  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on a full or half-time basis as a degree-seeking student.
  • Maintain academic standing throughout the entire internship appointment.  Academic standing is defined by the school, generally at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for undergraduate programs (cumulative; no rounding) and a 3.0 GPA for advanced degree programs.
  • Must be 16 years or older at the time of appointment.
  • If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Program Participant Agreement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

GS-2: In order to meet the minimum qualification requirements for this position at the GS-2 grade level, applicant must meet the following: Completion of high school diploma or GED equivalent.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

ICE is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals who are pursuing degrees in Business Administration, Management, Communication, Finance, Human Resources, Public Administration, Political Science among others, to join our Pathways Internship Program. The Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited/qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of "student" will not be considered.) This internship is for students who can commit to working year-round. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules. At the successful conclusion of this program, you may be eligible for non­competitive conversion to a federal career or career-conditional position.
