About the role

About the Role

The Student Support Specialist plays a dual role at our Nekoosa Site located at Alexander Middle School: managing daily operations tied to our CCLC grant program, and providing hands-on behavior intervention support during the school day in partnership with the Nekoosa School District. This is a position for someone who genuinely loves working with young people, can build trust with students who need extra support, and thrives in a structured yet dynamic school environment. You’ll plan and run programs, track outcomes, and be a consistent, caring presence for the kids who need it most.

Hours are M-F 9:30 am - 6:00 pm

What You’ll Do

Program Development & Management

  • Plan, develop, and implement arts, education, life skills, sports, fitness, technology, and specialty programs aligned with CCLC grant requirements and BGC’s priority outcomes: Health & Well-Being, Character & Leadership, Academic Success, and Life & Workforce Readiness
  • Manage the Cayen data system and compile monthly grant reports reflecting activities, attendance, and participation
  • Monitor and evaluate program achievement against target goals; recommend modifications that respond to member needs
  • Initiate new programs with Site Director approval and promote member participation

Behavior Intervention Support

  • Partner with Nekoosa School District to implement behavior support schedules and maintain regular communication
  • Develop personalized strategies to help students manage challenging behaviors, stress, frustration, and anxiety
  • Build students’ social skills and create safe, inclusive, emotionally supportive classroom environments
  • Regularly track student behavioral progress and the effectiveness of interventions
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and school staff to ensure consistent support across home and school

Supervision & Site Management

  • Independently manage groups of 15–25 members and handle behavior documentation
  • Manage the site, staff, and members in the absence of the Site Director
  • Maintain inventory of program equipment and supplies; control monthly supply budget
  • Conduct monthly tornado and fire drills; ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in special programs and community events
  • May be required to drive Club van
  • Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years of experience planning and implementing youth programs
  • Knowledge of youth development principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to motivate youth and effectively manage behavior challenges
  • Proficiency with PC and/or Mac; ability to learn new software as needed
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and 18 years of age or older
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY:

While this is primarily a school-year position, staff have the opportunity to pick up part-time to full-time hours during the summer at our Wisconsin Rapids (WR) Center — making this an excellent fit for candidates looking for year-round, meaningful work with youth.
