Nature & Purpose of Position
The Student Assistant supports the Office of Student Experience & Retention in cultivating a welcoming campus environment for faculty, staff, students, alumni, and visitors. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth daily operations and providing quality service to all who engage with the office.
- Manage the office front desk by greeting visitors, answering phones and emails, and providing general University information.
- Assist the Administrative Coordinator with departmental purchasing, travel arrangements, reconciliation, and other administrative processes.
- Serves as the student lead for the Bearkat Influencer Program, an initiative for SHSU student content creators to highlight key components and experiences of SHSU that attract current and perspective students.
- Tracks and documents Bearkat Influencer Program analytics and engagement metrics.
- Maintain a positive, upbeat, and professional attitude when interacting with others.
- Greet guests and direct them to the appropriate location or person.
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records for office and program-related needs.
- Support departmental events, projects, and initiatives designed to enhance student engagement and retention.
- Run on-campus and off-campus errands as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Requirements for the Position
- Experience in graphic design preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional demeanor with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new software systems.
Some evening work (after 5:00 p.m.), including weekends, may be required for special events or departmental activities.
