Structural & Payload Design Engineer 4 (Interiors)
Location: North Charleston, SC (100% Onsite)
Contract Duration: 6 Months (Possible extension)
Shift: 1st Shift (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Max Bill Rate Range: Up to $94/hr on W12
Travel: ~10% travel to Everett, WA
Position Summary
The Payloads organization is seeking an experienced, non-managerial Structural & Payload Design Engineer 4 to support the commercial aircraft product lifecycle. You will develop, integrate, and document structural and interior payload systems (monuments, lavatories, galleys, lighting, cargo compartments, livery, and cabin safety). This role involves customer configuration development, supplier oversight, 3D CAD modeling, regulatory compliance, and production/certification support.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design & 3D Modeling: Develop, modify, and maintain structural/payload components using 3-D CAD tools to define product specs for manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering teams.
- Compliance & Certification: Validate system designs to ensure compliance with FAA/EASA regulatory requirements.
- Supplier Engagement: Manage supplier development, production activities, and testing to optimize design and hit program goals.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Interface across project engineering, production, and program management to resolve complex technical issues through production and certification.
- Testing & Verification: Lead performance, integration, and analysis testing to verify components meet engineering specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace/Aeronautical, or Material Sciences).
- Experience: 9+ years of professional engineering experience in design, integration, and/or certification (or equivalent combination of advanced degree + experience).
- Domain Expertise: Direct experience with aircraft interior payload systems (Galleys, Lavatories, BFE Monuments, Cargo Systems, Lighting, or Livery).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent regulatory standards.
- Hands-on experience in aerospace interiors, material properties, design criteria, and engineering release processes.
- Proven project management skills (milestone tracking, risk assessment, schedule/budget assessments).
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and managing supplier interface.
