About the role
Senior Structural Engineer | Michigan (office of your choice + remote flexibility)
The Firm
Our client is one of the Midwest's fastest-growing engineering and architecture firms. Founded in the early 1990s, employee-owned, and repeatedly named one of the nation's "Best & Brightest Companies to Work For", including recognition across West Michigan and Metro Detroit. They've grown more than 90% in the past five years and have picked up over a dozen awards for growth, expertise and culture along the way. Multiple offices across Michigan give you the freedom to base yourself wherever suits, from West Michigan to Metro Detroit and northern Michigan, with genuine remote flexibility built in.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a firm slotting you into one narrow lane. The business has built its reputation on municipal, bridge, transportation and water/wastewater work, and is now actively growing its structural group and pushing further into the vertical buildings market. That means real variety: you get to keep a broad book of work rather than being boxed into vertical, municipal or bridge only. There's also a clear path here. The structural team is being built out with succession in mind, and the right person can grow into a structural leadership position over the next couple of years as the practice expands.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design a genuinely diverse range of structures: buildings, bridges, retaining walls, concrete tanks, towers and miscellaneous municipal and civil structures.
- Serve as a technical lead on design projects, running structural analysis and design computations to relevant codes.
- Prepare progress reports and client communications, and represent the firm at public meetings.
- Collaborate across multi-discipline teams (civil, municipal, transportation, water/wastewater, architecture).
- Train, coach and mentor junior engineers as the group grows.
- Get involved in business development and proposals, backed by dedicated BD and marketing support, with success rewarded through the bonus structure rather than left on your shoulders alone.
What They're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- PE registration in Michigan (or the ability to gain it).
- Minimum 5 years in structural design.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Comfortable with structural design software.
- Design experience across timber, concrete, steel and masonry building systems is preferred.
What's On Offer
- Competitive base salary plus performance bonus incentives.
- Medical, dental and vision from day one.
- 401k Traditional and Roth plans, plus matching contributions into the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). You're an owner, not just an employee.
- Option to apply for direct stock ownership after your first year.
- PTO that starts accruing from day one, used how you see fit.
- Educational assistance and real support for training and career development.
- A collaborative "work hard, play hard" culture that people genuinely rate.
