Structural Engineering Intern

About This Role

This internship offers the opportunity to collaborate with teams across a Burns & McDonnell Department, Global Practice, or Regional Office, providing support for business strategy requests. Engineering Interns perform tasks applying standard engineering techniques and procedures, including design, updates, and assisting lead engineers with project duties. Specific assignments vary by market segment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, and PowerPoint presentations
• Assist with responses to general questions
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data
• Present solutions to concerns
• Research solutions to project concerns
• Analyze and recommend solutions to problems
• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Comply with all policies and standards

Requirements

• Pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred
• Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department
• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred
• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers, and mission-critical facilities across diverse industries. The Transportation group plans and designs bridges, highways, ports, rail systems, streets, and pathways, with a focus on stakeholder outreach and traffic engineering. The Transmission & Distribution group plans and designs electrical transmission projects, including overhead and underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, and renewable power integration.
