About This Role
Assisting customers with donations, selections, and purchases is the primary focus of this store clerk position. The role involves operating a cash register, maintaining store cleanliness, and ensuring the security of items and funds.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers purchasing items by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register
- Collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts
- Prepare and package purchased items
- Prepare and balance the cash drawer and run routine register print-outs
- Prepare and deliver bank deposits
- Ensure the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures
- Prepare, process, and maintain various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers
- Prepare routine sales reports as directed
- Maintain the neatness and security of the cash register area
- Ensure that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked
- Assist customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items
- Ensure that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience
- Assist customers who are donating items by directing them to the proper loading/unloading area
- Assist with hauling donations to the storage area
- Prepare and provide tax receipts as needed
Requirements
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
- Ability to operate a cash register
- Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change
- Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle
- Ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25 pounds) materials, supplies, and equipment
- High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
