About the role

Duties

The individual selected for this position will:

  • Perform telephone interviews for a wide variety of surveys conducted by the Jeffersonville Contact Center.
  • Receive extensive training on the assigned surveys, interviewing techniques, and computer terminal operations techniques.
  • Telephone respondents and explain the purpose of the survey or census in order to gain cooperation.
  • Assure accurate and completed answers to all questions insofar as possible.
  • Obtain and record the data on a questionnaire or computer.
  • Conduct "cold contact" interviews.
  • Be required to conduct telephone research activities to obtain current status of address, location of sample person, occupant information, and identification of respondent telephone numbers.
  • Review information for completeness, edits, or otherwise assist in clerical processing and/or data entry.

Qualifications

You qualify at the grade 4 level if you possess one year of general experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. Examples include progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Statistical Clerk (Telephone Interviewer).

Education Substitution: Successful completion of 2 full years of study above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, college, or university may be substituted for the required experience.

One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grade GS-4.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
